US President Donald Trump sent a friendly message to China on Sunday as Chinese state media ramped up their rhetoric in the trade dispute with the US, recalling China’s Korean war mettle and warning Washington that it was becoming the enemy of a multipolar world.

当中国官方媒体加强了在美国的贸易争端中的言辞，回顾了中国在朝鲜战争中的勇气，并警告华盛顿称后者正在变成多级世界的敌人时，美国总统特朗普于周日向中国发出友好的信息。

“President Xi and I will always be friends, no matter what happens with our dispute on trade. China will take down its Trade Barriers because it is the right thing to do,” the US president tweeted.

Trump’s message came as the US and China are teetering on the brink of trade war and the Chinese side is putting a tough face.

In a commentary on Sunday, Xinhua News Agency said the trade tensions were a “fight between unilateralism and multilateralism, and a fight between protectionism and free trade”.

Trump has also ordered the US Treasury Department to work on measures to address China’s acquisitions of US technology. Separately, the US Congress has been working on revising the rules of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to expand its power to scrutinise overseas investment, especially from China, on national security grounds.

Communist Party mouthpiece People’s Daily quoted Ministry of Commerce researcher Zhou Mi as saying the US had abused national security reviews to block Chinese investment in the US and the administration’s intervention had become “increasingly frequent and direct”.

The US had not only set up “iron door” to limit the market access of foreign capital but also played tricks to hamper investors’ post-investment operations, putting Chinese investors in a weak position and offering them few solutions, People’s Daily said.

But China had ample weapons and ammunition to fight a trade war, the Global Times said.

“The suffering from a trade war will stimulate China to … innovate, which may offer a chance for China to more quickly narrow the gap in national power with the US,” it said.

Meanwhile, the China Chamber of International Commerce said that since the US tariff announcement its members had reported greater problems with honouring trade contracts and sharp rises in default risks.

I did some research to see what happened in the most recent India - China battle: 
The Nathu La clashes started on 11 September 1967, when the People's Liberation Army (PLA) launched an attack on Indian posts at Nathu La, and lasted till 15 September 1967. In October 1967, another military duel took place at Cho La and ended on the same day.
According to independent sources, the Indian forces achieved "decisive tactical advantage" and defeated the Chinese forces in these clashes.
Casualty ratio was 4:1 in favour of India despite China launching the attack. Very interesting.

A quick digression. China need not over-react to the Taiwan Act and visits by US diplomats and congressmen. Just state its obxtions calmly. China cannot stop Taiwan from buying American weapons and there is no China-US Agreement on that. China cannot stop Taiwan from stopping over in USA too. I feel China acts like a child throwing tantrums...these have lost all impacts on Taiwan and only hardens Taiwan's resistance.
- If it is Russia, Putin talks little but plans a lot like he did to take back Crimea.

Trump's sweet kiss will not sway China into submission. Beijing now sees US as an aggression to contain China's rise. Trump's softened stance could also mean to calm the market down. Beijing might even see that as an opportunity to strike the heart of Trump's darling, the stock market. The world is filled with too many poor people. China is selling low, US is selling high. My humble opinion is that a full-fledged trade war between China and the US is a good thing for the world. Full-fledged meaning direct trade between the two winding down to near zero, for an extended period of say, 5 years. That's the only way for the common folks in the USA to understand how they had benefited from global trade for the last 3 decades, and how the deprivation of free trade would impact their personal lives. Up to now they've been brainwashed on the false benevolence of themselves by their media, politicians, and sophists of every kind. The harsh reality of material scarcity and 10% inflation would bring them to senses. For China, the lost of a huge market would bring the lesson of true foreign prejudices against them, and the need to be self reliant in supply/demand economy. China will emerge a more confident and resilient nation. For the rest of the world, they would witness the consequences of wonton conflicts and learn of the need for restraint and mutual respects in foreign relationships. 
It would be like the lessons of the Great Depression.

Currency manipulation is a normal practice for any country. It is just that only the superpowers can have big wallets enough to throw their weights around. Any country that can borrow or internally print out fiat paper currency out of thin air is accidentally exercising ‘currency manipulation’. Currency value goes up and down is ‘currency manipulation’.
It is very difficult to ‘Hack’ the world superpowers. Most people can’t even steal cheap products from Walmart stores, hack another superpowers who possess massive amount of ‘Walls’ is not possible.
WTO allows developing countries to export cheap products and labors to developed countries. In return the developing countries will earn profits and turn around purchase high value products such as airplanes and cars. It is just happened that the Chinese are smart enough to move up the food chains faster compare to India. So it is not about China. It is about outsourcing. Stop outsourcing and trade deficit goes to ZERO!

Your comment would have been a valid one if there weren't such an open and blatant government restrictions of market access for foreign businesses trying to reach Chinese customers. Further, China has had multiple huge industries completely blocked off to foreign businesses for decades now. Chinese free trade means free exports but massive import barriers to undermine everyone else.

Trading with China is decidedly one-sided, and will remain so unless nations implement strict protective measures in response to those China uses against the rest of the world.

Take a look back at how Japan became a leader in manufacturing domestic and industrial products after the war— they copied from America and made the products better. Look at Korea - they did the same to Japan and evolved the products to make them even better. Same for the Taiwanese. This IP theft has been going on forever, so why pick in China? The US can always copy Chinese products and make them better too.
