Shoppers screamed in terror when a 45-metre escalator suddenly changed directions and hurled people to the floor of a Hong Kong shopping centre.

At least 17 people were injured in the incident at Mong Kok mall on Langham Place including one man who was taken to hospital.

Ooow well played Unclaimedgerm. Actually this is the first escalator malfunction I've heard of in HK for a while years in fact. Yeah in China they get the odd foot-grill at the exit/entrance step giving way every now-and-again but no biggie normally.

Fortunate that no one was killed lots of tourists have large suitcases on wheels and take them in the shopping centers it could have been much worse thankfully it wasn`t.
