DAMASCUS Syria (AP) — Syrian President Bashar Assad on Sunday refused any security cooperation with Western nations or the reopening of their embassies until they cut ties with opposition and insurgent groups.

Shortly after Assad gave his speech a shell hit the first international fair in the country since the war began six years ago killing and wounding several people.

Assad's defiant comments come at a time when his troops and pro-Iranian militiamen are gaining ground across the country under the cover of Russian airstrikes. Many countries have ceased calling for him to step down.

Very moronic for the West to propose that while being against his rule AND maintaining sanctions on his country. They want his support they should have to give in to him and his government before trying to muscle him into a treaty or some sorts.

The west falls prey to the liberal push of human rights stuff and the Arab spring movement. Look what happened! The only place where there is still some control and relatively safe place for people to live are Egypt (where the leader is Sisi and the Assad controlled part of Syria). Everywhere else US and EU touched are now in ruins building destroyed people living in false pretense of safety but in reality you can die any day from a car bomb or some other terrorist acts. We should all get out of that region stop the CIA activities and let the people there determine their own fate. Sometimes it takes a ruthless dictator to keep things in check on these different religious factions we should not think that western way of living is the right way for everybody!

good job assad tell them to stop supporting terrorism. this remarks are a slap in the face against terrorists and their sponsors whom cause the deaths of almost half a million people do to their ambition of regime change. how would they like it if another country armed and trained domestic terrorism in their countries?????

That seems fair. Why should they agree to any kind of deal with us when we are backing their enemy? That would be like me robbing you then demanding you pay me to keep me from robbing you. There is a name for that it is called extortion. Basically we our government is trying to extort the Syrian government.

You can’t get a more obvious violation of international law than to actually move in and set up a military base in a sovereign country that has never taken any offensive action towards our country." SO THE QUESTION REMAINS of how Syrians will rexpel American forces who have illegally entered their country to support jihadist & Kurdish terrorist groups after the war draws to a conclusion in the areas that the government can control without being attacked by the U.S. military "defending itself". Although the U.S. presence is in gross violation of international law as Senator Black correctly concludes that's not relevant because the U.S.is the lawless nation which ignores international law including its own specific treaty commitments.
