The number of lung cancer cases among non-smokers has doubled in the last decade with experts blaming air pollution on the rise.

If the trend continues the number of deaths from lung cancer among non-smokers will leapfrog those among nicotine users in a decade.

National data regarding lung cancer among non-smokers is hard to obtain so other researchers are yet to notice the trend.

China has been waging a battle against air pollution with concentrations of small deadly particles known as PM2.5 often topping 300 micrograms per cubic metre.

Then they need to look harder at where the cancer victims live and their life styles. They would have to live in urban or industrial areas-if they are older people the air would have been polluted with industrial emissions. The role of domestic pollutants-eg carpet fibres fungal spores in damp properties and even dust from car air conditioning needs to be considered before blaming air pollution which seems to me to be far far less than in the 60s/70s/ 80s.

I've read this carefully and the report contradicts itself by saying data to back these claims is hard to find! I suspect it's a growing tactic of the environmental movement indeed 'Client earth' an environmental legal group won a court case over pollution levels in inner City areas. They are clearly after banning fossil fuel combustion. No doubt when electric cars are forced on us and we don't have enough power generation to power their batteries. They'll be happy to see the economy ruined whilst we ride bikes everywhere and munch on lettuce leaves!

I've been saying this for decades. Finally science has caught up with reality and air pollution is predominantly caused by road traffic. Especially older vehicles. I'm not defending smoking but traffic fumes have been so obviously the majority cause of all these cases of non smokers dying of lung cancer for years I'm surprised more people haven't noticed.
