Having lived in China for more than 10 years. One thing I noticed about the Chinese culture and systems is that it is protective of its citizens. Look at the meteoric rise of Alibaba, Baidu, Huawei, Weibo, Wechat, Wanda cinemas, Haier, etc. All these are private companies run by ordinary Chinese citizens. The government systems and structures shielded these companies from unnecessary competition with big foreign companies. Baidu was shielded from Google, Google is banned in China so that Baidu can grow. Facebook is banned in China so that Weibo and Wechat can grow. Ebay was banned in China so that Alibaba and its Taobao websites can grow.

在中国生活了十多年。我注意到了一点——中国的文化和制度是保护自己公民的。看看阿里巴巴、百度、华为、微博、微信、万达影院、海尔等公司的迅猛崛起，这些都是由普通中国公民运营的民营企业。政府的体系和结构使这些公司免于与外国大公司的不必要竞争。百度被庇护以免于与谷歌的竞争，谷歌在中国被禁止，因此百度可以发展壮大。脸书在中国被禁止，因此微博和微信可以发展壮大。易趣在中国被禁止，这样阿里巴巴和淘宝网就可以发展壮大。

The Chinese take pride in seeing their own rise and get recognized. Imagine 30 years ago the Chinese were poorer than some African countries but today they are giving us AID. From backyard and garage factories to state of the art manufacturing industries supplying the whole world. If it were here in Africa we could have banned our own companies run by our citizens so that foreign companies can thrive.

中国人为自己的崛起以及被认可感到自豪。想象一下，三十年前中国比一些非洲国家还要贫穷，但今天他们却在给我们援助。他们从后院和车库工厂发展到供应全球的最先进的工业制造技术。如果要是在非洲，我们可能反而会禁止本国公民的公司，这样外国公司就能繁荣发展了。

Unfortunately that’s what we are doing now. The aim of the Chinese is to produce Chinese citizens who can compete at international levels, soon they will be producing the richest person in world. They identify individuals with talent and nurture them. Here we crush local talent with our mighty so that foreigners can win.

很不幸，这就是我们正在做的。中国的目标是培养能够在国际水平上竞争的中国公民，很快他们就会成为世界上最富有的人。他们发现有才能的人，然后培养他们。而在这里，我们强力摧毁当地的人才，这样外国人就能赢了。

The way the Chinese do things is the same way Americans and most western countries do. They promote their own, no wonder they are the best in everything and we are the worst in everything.

Actually China didn’t ban Ebay. Ebay entered China, and was defeated by Alibaba and Taobao, after that Ebay quit.

Facebook wasn’t banned to protect China’s native social media sites. It was banned because views western social media tools as a way for Chinese citizens to exercise freedom of speech and association. Same for Google. This article is poorly researcged. The main point is that China makes it hard for foreign companies to compete in China. This is done to help China’s indigenous companies advance and to close the technological gap.

脸书并不是为了保护中国本土的社交媒体网站而被禁止的。它被禁止是因为西方的社交工具被视为中国公民行使言论自由和结社自由的一种方式。同样的谷歌也是如此。这篇文章也没有很好地研究这些。主要是因为中国让外国公司很难在中国竞争。这帮助了中国本土企业不断前进，逐渐缩小了技术差距。

Even here just next door in Botswana, batswana are so protective of their own people, their local companies and industries and businesses. Surely we need to pick a leaf from these countries. Political leaders should stop sleeping on duty.

Insted of concertrating in doing businesss, we end up joining politics. U start fiting with oponets in politics. Let try to concetrate in our business. Leave politics to politicians.

when you say from the backyard garage i love it.coz its true thats how china has grown.even today most of the factories making some of the goods we are consuming in this poor country of ours are not from hitec factories but small scale factories in the space of 50x100m spaces.in zambia we are looking for foreign investors to come and set up big factories to manufacture even slashers yet we have the kafue steel ,we cant produce copper tubbings for refridgeration yet copper is our pillow. i've been to industrial zones in china in wenzhou,chonquing,xintai,zhengzhou,fujian and upto today sido type indudtries are still vibrant and supplying components to big favtories. i wonder how we cant do what the chinese do.why are we not anxious to know what they do with our mukula .our leather our dandashe.kaya

As I can see from your comment and of others including the post we are commenting on, you and me and many other Zambian can do anything and everything that the chinese do. We are capable but the systems of governance kill our capacity. The bring in big and established foreign investors paying zero tax to compete with small local businesses that are overtaxed. Our leader here are only preoccupied with prolonging their stay in political office and amassing stolen wealth.

its sad, they brought in CEEC whoever it has benefitted.cadres and relatives are the ones who accessed loans, those with vibrant ideas who submitted proposals but with no backing there proposals are still gattering dust. i went to one small factory these chinese wen hearing am from zambia thought that i have access to copper and they wanted big tons. they manufacture plumbing ware. its the first time i came to realise that to silver shinny bathroom wares we admire are not actually silver, they are copper then given a silver shinny coat. i wonder why no company in zambia can make that upto today when the only techology needed there are moulds.
