The world's largest radio telescope has began operating in southwestern China a project which Beijing says will help humanity search for alien life.

在中国的西南部，世界最大的射电望远镜已经开始工作。北京方面宣称该科学项目能帮助人类搜寻外星生命。

The mega telescope began working around noon the official Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday adding that it will explore space and search for signs of intelligent life.

The 1.2 billion yuan ($180 million) science mega-project is named after its huge dimensions:the Five-hundred-metre Aperture Spherical Telescope or FAST.

The military industrial complex is all about profit. While millions of people own shares in those companies many through things like retirement funds the big share holders well hidden through multiple investment ventures (investment companies insurance companies etc) also own the 6 media companies that keep us living in fear in turn they also own many of our leadership and that is how it's done.
It is not about money they have enough for a thousand lifetimes it is about power that comes with that. Those few people we know very little about. They have hidden themselves so well that even if they were exposed how is the word to get out and would the people really care or just want their TV shows?
They are the oligarchy.

Whatever the US has accused China of doing .eg. militarized space computer hacking or currency manipulation the US had already been there and done it all a long time ago even before China ever dream of doing so. It’s akin to pointing one index finger at others but forgetting that three other fingers are pointing back at the accuser.

One thing you may not realize is even though the dish may be fixed in place it is still possible to adjust its aiming direction to some extent by changing the phasing of the antennae.

Can't that also be done by moving the collector too? In another words the towers that have the cables that keep the receiver (what I called the collector) in place can be moved so as the world turns wherever they are looking at in the sky can stay centered.
Of course I don't know much about radio astronomy I just like the results.

Forgot about that--yes I suppose that could work too.
One limit to how far off-axis you can aim is the fact that a parabolic dish doesn’t focus so well in such a situation.
