When you buy anything anywhere in the world there is a good chance that it comes from China. We all know China as the great export powerhouse of the 21st century. But China's exports hit an all-time high in December 2015 and (ignoring season fluctuations) have beendeclining ever since. China is increasingly turning inward for growth - and having troublefinding it.

Maybe demand is down? Chinese manufactured goods aren't exactly known for being quality products. People especially millennials are starting to realize that it is cheaper in the long run to pay a little extra for something well made and durable vs having to replace it after a short period.

Steve your comment shows how the american media has screwed up our way of thinking. Do you honestly believe companies like Mattel just calls up their factories in China and say " Make us a new barbie doll. We don't care what she looks like just send us a new one."? American companies send their factories exact specifications for everything they want built. So it's not China's fault for cheap items coming into the country it is  the way the companies want the item to be built. Actual Chinese " Made in China" products are actually pretty good. As an example: Lenovo computers are very good. Huawei phones are rated as some of the best smartphones in the world. So please remember "Made in China" usually means " Made by company specifications in China".

Honestly that might be more true a decade ago. I got the opinion from a local Australia manufacturing engineer recently that we are struggling to compete with China not just on cost but also on quality. They have done quite well to change that reputation of poor quality high output production.

before I read this article I saw it is come from Al Jazeera I already knew this is erroneous every time Al Jazaara talked about China is always bullcrap. Maybe it was the world was riding on China's coat tail since China was the only country providing affordable labor for the rest of the world that makes the world turning. 2008 real estate bubble burst in the U.S. that cause global financial melt down first U.S. then Europe the rest of the world and now China is catching the tail wind.

Al Jazeera  looks have no  independence and obxtivity. Next time I will directly read YahooBBC and CNN and then have a fun to read articles here which  follow suits. Comparing with other articles in Al Jazeera this one is better in terms of its intention.
As for globalization China is taken by this author as a big exporter.But he forget one thing:China is also a big importer which import hugely from U.S E.U Australia South Korea Japan Saudi Abra IranBraziland Asean countries and etc. So that is why many country do not really want China economy to sink.
As a matter of fact China is a sulf-sustaining country with complete industries. Deglobalization would bring harm for sure but will not do it to the core. If China behave like others to close trade with foregin countries and focus on itself it will leverage its own big market to keep its economy and industries to move forward. That is not definietly what the world want to see since everybody now is intertwined and wars in trading won't serve any countries benefits.
There are a lot of backward ideological fanatics and bigots in Western media. Some of them rant and rave with different political purposes. But businessmen are pratical and economy is fundamental to a country which is why globalization still prevails.

I can give you example of more and of corporations moving from China to cheaper labor markets in Viet Nam and elsewhere
